Privacy
The short version: we use your photo to roast it, we keep it for a limited time, and we never sell it or use it for anything else.
What we collect
- Your photo. Your browser shrinks it and strips location and camera data before uploading.
- The roast the AI wrote about it.
- A scrambled version of your IP address, used only to stop people spamming the site. The key used to scramble it changes every day and is never saved, so once the day is over it can't be turned back into your IP address. We delete it after two days anyway.
To stop bots running up our AI bill, the Roast me button uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check you're a person. Cloudflare processes technical details such as your IP address and browser to do this.
How your photo is used
Your photo is sent to our AI provider, whose AI writes your roast. It's processed under their paid API terms, which don't allow it to be used to train their models.
We keep photos for up to 30 days so the site owner can moderate content and keep the service running. After that they're deleted automatically.
If the AI refuses to roast a photo, we may keep it for up to 14 days so a person can check whether the refusal was right and improve the site. These photos are hidden behind a blur until a moderator chooses to look. Photos refused for sexual content, or that may show someone under 18, are not stored: we keep only a short written reason.
Optional moderator review of sexual-content flags
Before uploading, you can tick an optional box to confirm the photo is of you and that a moderator may check it if it's flagged as possibly sexual. It's entirely optional and doesn't change your roast.
If you tick it and your photo is flagged that way:
- It's stored encrypted, separately from other photos, together with your IP address (also encrypted).
- It's shown to a moderator blurred, and only revealed if they choose to. Every view is logged.
- It's deleted automatically within 72 hours, or sooner once reviewed, along with your IP address.
- If a moderator believes it may show someone under 18, it's locked, reported to the police, and kept only as long as they need.
You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us, and we'll delete it straight away. Photos the AI thinks may show anyone under 18 are never stored, whether or not the box is ticked.
Cookies (only if you say yes)
If you click Allow on the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people use. It sets cookies whose names start with _ga, which last up to two years. Google collects details such as your device, browser, rough location and the pages you visit, and processes them for us. It never sees your photos or your roast, and it's never used for advertising.
If you click Allow on the cookie banner, we load Google Tag Manager, which runs the analytics and advertising tools we use (such as Google Analytics). They set cookies, some lasting up to two years, and collect details such as your device, browser, rough location, the pages you visit and how you found the site, so we can see what's working and measure our marketing. The companies behind those tools (such as Google) process this data. None of them sees your photos or your roast.
If you click No thanks, or don't answer, none of this is loaded. You can change your mind at any time with the Cookies link at the bottom of every page.
Your rights
You can ask us to delete your photo at any time, or ask what we hold about you. Email [email protected], telling us roughly when you used the site so we can find it.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Please be sensible
The site is for over-18s only. Only upload photos of yourself, or of people who are up for being roasted. The roasts are comedy: rude, sweary, and not meant personally.
